About
A workshop where you know who is handling your tools
The workshop at Ferrarska ulica 14 in Koper is run and worked by Igor Komadina himself. You bring your tools in, send them by post from Slovenia, Croatia and Italy, or arrange another way that suits.
How the work is done
A pair of shears that folds hair halfway through a shift, and a knife that crushes meat instead of cutting it, cost more than the invoice shows: slower work, and tools written off earlier than they should be. This workshop exists because of that cost.
It began with sharpening dog-grooming tools, and grew into a devotion to precise work. The workshop is one person: whoever takes your tools in assesses them, sharpens them and tells you what is wrong. The proof is the first pair of shears you hand over — and in this trade that is the only evidence that counts.
How the workshop works
-
01
Assessment first, sharpening second
First the edge, angle and depth of any chips are checked — on shears also the tension and ride line. Only then is the real amount of work clear.
-
02
No more is taken than the edge demands
Every tool has a finite number of sharpenings. Metal comes off according to what the edge needs, not what is quickest.
-
03
The tool keeps the geometry its maker gave it
The bevel is restored to the maker’s geometry. Hollow-ground shears stay hollow-ground, and the ride line is left untouched.
-
04
The steel is cooled as it is worked
Work runs from coarse to fine grit, at a controlled angle and with cooling. Overheated steel will not hold an edge.
-
05
A job that would ruin a tool is refused
A tool that sharpening cannot return to service, you hear about before the work, not after — even when it means no job.
